Aline Marie (Kilgore) Burgess, 91, died on Sunday, September 21, 2003, at the Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning, September 24, at the United Methodist Church in Goodell, with Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial was in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell.

Aline Kilgore, was born on December 12, 1911 in Union County, the daughter of Clay Clarence "C.C." and Elizabeth Marie (Holberg) Kilgore. She graduated from high school in Shannon City, Iowa. Aline continued her post secondary education for two years at the University of Iowa and later completed her B.A. Degree at Drake University.

Following her education, Aline was a teacher for rural schools in Wright and Hancock Counties. She was a Librarian for the Klemme School and later for the Belmond School where she retired in 1980.

Aline married Joseph W. Burgess on March 9, 1934 at the United Brethren Church Parsonage in Goodell. They farmed and raised their children on the Burgess homestead north of Goodell.

In addition to her career in education and farming with her husband, Aline was a home maker. She loved any activity that included her family. She enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards and being a 4-H Leader. She served on the church board and was involved in activities with the church ladies.

Favorite pastimes included fishing and bird watching. She liked to read and keep up on current events. Aline enjoyed music and playing the piano. She had accompanied her mother on various occasions and played for silent movies. Aline made pottery and handmade quilts which she gave to others as keepsakes.

Aline and Joe lived at Prairie View in Garner for four years before moving to Clear Lake where Aline lived at the Courtyard Assisted Living while Joe resided at the Oakwood Care Center. Following his death last year, Aline became a resident at Oakwood.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; son, Dean Burgess; and brothers, Claire and Lyndon.

Survivors are her son, Thomas Clay Burgess of Clear Lake; daughter, JoAnn Burgess of Clear Lake; daughter-in-law, Peggy Burgess of Hampton; sister, Ellen Withers of Paisley, Oregon; granddaughters, Kimberly (Jeff) Loggins of Hampton and Lynn (Johannes) Krupp of Sweden; and great-grandson, Tyler Loggins of Hampton.
