Frances Sperle was born October 13, 1923, on the family farm in rural Logan County, near Burnstad, North Dakota, the daughter of John M. and Margaret (Becker) Sperle. As a young girl she moved with her parents to a farm home fourteen miles south of Napoleon in the St. Anthony area. She grew up there and received her elementary education in rural Logan County Schools. At the age of nineteen she moved with her parents to a farm nearer to Napoleon and in 1946 she moved to Napoleon where she clerked at the local grocery store for several years.

Frances was married to Leo W. Kuntz on August 8, 1950 at Napoleon, ND. Following their marriage the couple lived in Napoleon for a short time, later moving to Mandan, ND for one and a half years. They returned to Napoleon and purchased a farm two miles east of Napoleon. They lived and farmed there until 1964, at which time they purchased a farm north of Napoleon. Leo died September 17, 1967 and that fall Frances moved her family into Napoleon. She worked for the Napoleon Homestead for a short time then began her employment with the local Farmers Union Oil Company where she worked as a bookkeeper for over nineteen years until retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, the St. Philip Neri Christian Mothers and the Napoleon Golden Age Club.

Frances' hobbies included a love of gardening and taking care of her home and yard. She also liked to quilt and participated in the local choir and the church choir for many years. One of Frances's proudest moments was when she earned her High School Diploma through the GED program. She felt a great sense of accomplishment from achieving a level of education she had always wanted.

Frances Kuntz passed away Saturday April 13, at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, ND. She was 89 years old.
