Matthew Erwin and his wife, Mary McKay, came to the United States in 1837, arriving in New York on June 9th aboard the "Mary Howland." They brought all their children: Matthew, James, EDWARD, Hannah, Eliza, Mary, and John. They settled in New York City for a short time and eventually migrated into Michigan and settled in Southfield, where they remained for the rest of their days. In Ireland they lived in the little townland of Drummond, in Drumachose Parish near Limavady in County Londonderry.

Edward married Susan Maria Beardslee on March 20, 1847, in Oakland county. Susan was the sister of Sarah that married James Erwin, brother to Edward. See bio of Susan for names of children.
