William Wene was appointed as the first Postmaster of Dallasburg, Ohio, on August 22, 1848. He later changed to Cozaddale, Ohio, in 1871. They are cities located near the southwest border of Warren County, Ohio. To send a letter from Cincinnati to New Orleans cost 25 cents at the time.


Obiturary - Nashville, TN newspaper

WENE - Monday at 4 p.m., Aug. 6, 1900 at Howell, Ind., William Wene, Sr., aged 88 years.

The remains will arrive this Tuesday morning, Aug. 7, on the 8:40 train and be conveyed to the residence of his son, William Wene, Jr., corner of Treutland and Second Streets.

Funeral from the residence as above tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Aug. 8, services conducted by Rev. Lewis Powell. Interment at Mt. Olivet.

The following gentlemen are requested to act as pall-bearers: J.H. Hale, J.H. Hutchison, A.S. Williams, William Shook, B.F. Jackson, J.D. McGinnis. Carriages from Wiles & Karsch.
