Susanna (Kohr) Bowman was born in Washington county, Md., June 13, 1816, and died January 30, 1893, aged 77 years, 7 months and 17 days. She was married to Abraham Bowman Dec. 27, 1837. They lived happily together for forty-six years and his death occurred eight years ago. To them were born six sons and two daughters, One of those sons is dead. The five sons and two daughters all reached home before she died. John, the eldest, resides in Chicago, Samuel in Indiana, Benjamin, Charles, and Mary Pocock in Illinois, and Hershey and Sue at the old homestead, near Massillon. Mr. Bowman and his wife were Christians from their youth and devoted a long and useful life to the cause of Christ. They were members of the United Brethren church, and contributed of their means to building churches and sustaining our educational interests. The United Brethren church in Massillon, O., is a monument to their memory.

Their children all received a good education and all taught in public schools for a number of years, except Hershey, to whom fell the lot of looking after the farm in the declining years of his father and mother. In intelligence and respectability the children are an honor to their parents. The whole family is held in high esteem by a large circle of relatives and friends, May the grace of God which sustained father and mother in a long and useful life, comfort the children and relatives in their bereavement, and bring all to the happy abode of the good. The funeral services were held at the old homestead and the mother Bowman was laid by the side of her husband in the cemetery at West Brookfield, near Massillon.
