Lafayette Beebe was born in Knox county, OH, April 18, 1837 (Differs from headstone) and when a child of about two years climbed upon a large chest, as is supposed, and jumped off in imitation of older children, thereby injuring his spine so that he has since been unable to walk. Notwithstanding his condition, his mind is active and for the past twenty years has managed the business of the farm and has thus been of valuable assistance to his father. In token of his valuable services and business tact, his father presented him with a farm. He has been a worthy member of the Birch Lake Methodist Episcopal Church since 1875 and has held church offices of greater or less importance ever since.
