Edward Schenck, a native Fultonian passed to his reward Thursday, July 15th. in the Brooklyn hospital, aged 78 years. He was a descendant of a Hollander who settled in Flatland (Brooklyn) uring New Amsterdam years. Edward's father, Peter Schenck, and his brother, William Schenck, migrated up the Hudson and to Oswego Falls, now Fulton, in the early 19th century. The sons of Peter Schenck, Edward and Herman, volunteered early in the Civil war. Herman was killed at a
spring while taking a drink of water, by a cowardly rebel. Edward fought to the close of the war and remained for three or four years in Washington. While a member of a Presbyterian church, of which Dr. Sunderland was pastor, he was introduced to a preceptress of a young ladies seminary, who became his wife. They have in recent years resided on Brooklyn Heights and have been members of the Church of the Pilgrims, of which he was an honored deacon. Edward has been a member
of the U. S. Grant post and the funeral service was held under their roof July 17th and mortal remains taken to Fulton by his cousin, William Schenek, for burial in the family plot at the cemetery Mt Adnah.
