Cecil Lee Acholes, age 74, of Douglasville passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was born in Pike County on May 14, 1938 to the late Lee Roy Acholes and the late Myrtle Gibson Acholes.

He was a 1958 graduate of Campbell High School of Fairburn. He worked at J. Cowan Whitley Funeral Home from September 1958 until September 1961 and had plans to go to Mortuary School but he was drafted into the United States Army instead, where he served during the Vietnam era. He retired from Eastern Airlines where he worked as a Customer Service Representative for 27 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Douglasville.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Horace Acholes; sisters, Mary Long, Nora Teal and Inez Tice.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Melba Shadix Acholes of Douglasville; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Dave Bullis of Bloomfield, Ontario, Canada, Joy and Ralph Rinehart of Douglasville, Georgia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Dean Jacques of Summerville, South Carolina, Ginger and Tim Collins of Hiram; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Sammie Acholes of Douglasville; grandchildren, Tiffany Peterson, Megan Rinehart, Dakota Rinehart; great grandchild, Sam Mooney; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 10, 2013 at 2:00 pm from Hightower's Memorial Chapel with Reverend Charles Gibbs officiating.. The family will receive friends at Hightower's Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Interment will follow in the Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Billy Thomas, Keith Shadix, Don McGouirk, Rusty Shadix, Mike Shadix, and Steve Shadix. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Campbell High School Class of 1958, Fairburn, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring to do so may make contributions in memory of Cecil, to your favorite charity or Central Baptist Church, 5811 Central Church Road, Douglasville, GA 30134.
