Fauneil P. Harrison, age 92, of Sheridan passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Westview Health Care Center. She was born on May 21,1920, at home near Elsie, Nebraska, to parents Charles Franklin and Hazel Bessie (Terry) Powell. She married George William Harrison on February 14, 1941, after a brief courtship before he had to ship off overseas to the war. They later settled in Sheridan, Wyoming where they made their home for the rest of their lives.

Fauneil had some unique jobs over the years, one of which was working in the office at Hart Mountain at the Japanese concentration camp. She also worked in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where the atomic bomb was secretly being built. Another endeavor was taking flying lessons in Denver, Colorado, and being the only one in the class to actually get her pilot’s license. She also worked for Sheridan School District No. 2 for 15 years as a teacher’s aide, and enjoyed working with children immensely.

Fauneil was a courageous and determined lady, as evidenced in her “never-give-up” attitude after she had a leg amputated at the age of 70. She endured extensive hours of physical therapy in order to reach her goal of being able to remain active by walking with a prosthesis and riding a bicycle again. Fauneil cherished attending her grandchildren’s activities and watching them play sports; she was a huge supporter to them in the role of being their most faithful fan. She had a gentle, sweet spirit and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Harrison and her partner, John Victor, of Colorado, her son, Jim Harrison and his partner, Pam Witcraft, of Sheridan, and her daughter, Debi (Mike) Nesbitt of Sheridan. She is survived by her grandsons, Derek Rupp of Colorado, Jacob (Paulina) Harrison of Mexico, Braden Smith of Colorado, Keedan Smith of Sheridan and her granddaughters, Amanda (Luke) Malyurek of Gillette, and Britin Smith of Colorado, as well as two great-grandsons. She is also survived by two of her six siblings: Joyce Brown of Oregon and Vonda Fletcher of Washington.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Church of Christ (1769 Big Horn Avenue) in Sheridan. Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. On-line condolences may be written at www.kanefuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Fauneil can make a donation in her memory to Sheridan College Foundation, PO Box 6328, Sheridan, WY 82801. The family chose to establish a scholarship for nursing students as a tribute to the wonderful care Fauneil received by the nurses, CNAs, and the staff at Westview Health Care Center.
