Charles Donart
Charles Donart died at his home in Stillwater at 10:30 o'clock p.m., May 8, 1924, aged 78 years, 2 months and 3 days.
Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Interment was in Fair Lawn cemetery.
Charles Donart was born of "Pennsylvania Dutch" ancestry in Mercer county, Ohio, March 5, 1846. He was married there to Miss Sarah Ann Heath, and eight children were born to them, one of whom, a son, died in infancy. Mrs. Donart died in Stillwater, May 16, 1921. The seven surviving children were with their father at the eime of his death, except G.H. Donar, who was unable to come from Los Angeles, Calif., on account of the quarantine.
Charles Donart was a Stillwater pioneer. In fact, he came to the sie of the present city before the town was born. He arrived from Kansas on the afternoon of the 22d of April, 1889, the day of the original Oklahoma opening, and took up a claim at what is now the southeastern edge of Stillwater. He established a farm there, and lived there with his family for thirty-one years. Originally he was a carpenter and contractor, and in the early days he built a few houses in Stillwater, but nearly all his life was spent at farming.
The surviving children are: J.H. Donart, Stillwater; C.W. Donart, Stillwater; C.R. Donart, Oklahoma City; Mrs. W.A. Coffey, Oklahoma City; G.H. Donart, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. C.E. Millard, Stillwater; C.E. Donart, Stillwater. There are eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Donart was a member of the United Brethren church, but was affiliated with no lodge.
