Wortman-Bokankamp (sic)

Married at the home of the brides parents, Wm. Wortman and wife, near Ruskin, Thursday, February 16, 1911, Rev. H.F. Egbert officiating, Miss Minnie to Henry Bokankamp (sic). The ceremony took place at three o’clock in the afternoon in the presence of a large number of assembled guests. The bride was dressed in mahogany blue messaline silk with cream silk lace and bead trimming. She carried natural bridal roses and fern leaves and wore roses in her hair. The groom was dressed in the usual black and wore a rose and fern leaf. Miss Florence Struve being bridesmaid was dressed in Alice blue with cream lace trimming and wore natural rose buds in her hair. Mr. John Bokankamp (sic) was bestman (sic) and dressed in black wearing a rose bud and fern leaf.

After the services a bountiful wedding dinner was served. The following guests were present: Mr. and Mrs. D. Windhorst, Mr. and Mrs, J. Wortman, Allie, Hattie, Cena and Elmer Wortman, Mr. H. Stockum and family, F. Bokankamp (sic), J. Bokenkamp, Mr. and Mrs. F. Weke and family, Mr. and Mrs. A. Christensen and family, Mr. and Mrs. F. Niewald, Mr. F. Kluender and family, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffmeyer and family, Misses Lucinda and Freda Wortman, Rev. Egbert and family, F. Vieselmeyer and family, A. Dill, H. Struve and family and F. West.

OBITUARY OF MRS. HENRY BOKENKAMP

Mrs. Katharina Wilhelmine Wortmann was born on April 6, 1883 at Kiowa, Nebr., to her parents, Henry Wilhelm Wortmann and Wilhelmine Wortmann nee’ Burstaedt.

She was baptized on April 22, 1883, and confirmed on April 11, 1897, from Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Kiowa by the sainted Pastor John Meyer, her confirmation memory verse being Lam 3,24.25.

On Feb. 16, 1911, she was married to Henry W. Bokenkamp at the home of her parents near Ruskin, Nebr.

The Bokenkamps made their home on a farm near Deshler, were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church near Deshler until its dissolution and have since been members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Having been in ill health for some months, Mrs. Bokenkamp died from a combination of complications on March 28, 1953, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 22 days.

Left to mourn of the immediate family are: Her husband, Henry W. Bokenkamp, of Deshler; her mother, Mrs. Wilhelmine Wortmann, of Deshler; one brother, Henry Wortmann, of Ruskin; two sisters, Kathrine Marie, now Mrs. Dan Windhorst, of Ruskin, and Anna Marie, now Mrs. Harold Merritt, of Los Angeles, Cal. Her father and one sister, Sophia Louise, have preceded her in death.

A brief private devotion in the German language was held at the Ahrendts Funeral Home for members of the family by the Rev. A.G. Degner. The funeral service was held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon, March 31, with Pastor Roland L. Hafner officiating, and Mrs. E.B. Hilst of Chester at the console of the organ. A vocal solo “Jesus Sinners Doth Receive,” was given by M.H. Struve. Pastor Hafner spoke on the theme "The Renewing of the Body," based on the text Phil. 3.21. Interment was made on St. Mark's Lutheran cemetery (sic) of Ruskin.
