John Chorpenning, a resident of the Cozad community for many years and a more recent resident for the past 18 years of Lexington passed away unexpectedly on New Years Day in Denver. Mr. Chorpenning had moved to Denver last spring to reside with his daughters who live in Denver.

Funeral services were held Thursday January, 4th at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad with Reverend J. Russell Mead, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Church officiating. Interment was in the Cozad Cemetery.

Mrs. William Staton was organist at tht service. A vocal duet was presented by Mrs. Harlan Welch and Mrs. Clarence Kauffman. Casket bearers were Orval Foster, Donald Chandler, Joe Pollat, Oden Delp, Delmar Salisbury and Percy York.

Mrs. Chorpenning died April 8, two weeks after they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home in Lexington. Soon after Mr. Chorpenning went to Denver to reside. He had made several return trips.

John Chorpenning was born at Waterloo, Iowa on August 9, 1884, the son of Mr. and Mrs Samuel Chorpenning.

March 20, 1907, at the home of the bride's parents at Cozad, he was united in marriage with Helene Cecelia Anderson. They farmed near there then lived in Cozad before moving to Lexington some 18 years ago.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Eva) Kring and Mrs. Mearl (June) Kring, both of Denver; four grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

A son, Hans Chorpenning Jr., died in service in World War II.
