James was the sixth child of William J. and Mary C.(Greak) Curns.
James married first Nellie Mae Kalmbach in 1913. Nellie was the daughter of Robert and Sarah (Andrews) Kalmbach of Clinton County, PA. James and Nellie had one child, Leuettea. When her mother remarried Leuettea adopted her step fathers name.
James married second Pearl Belle Cole, daughter of Albert and Fanny Cole on 24 Dec 1914 in Lock Haven, Clinton, PA. In the 1920s they moved to Ostelic, Chenango, NY. James and Pearl had five children Stella, Rosella, Robert, Benjamin and Mary.
