Daughter of Isaac Horton Smith and Phoebe Smith. She married Brig. Gen. Clinton Brooks Sears 22 Oct 1873. Their children were Clinton B. Sears, Jr., Bertram Sears, Paul Eugene Sears, and Marion Sims Sears. She married Rear Admiral Fernando P. Gilmore 12 Sept 1900 in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

NEWPORT, Sept 12 - At noon to-day Mrs. Lydia E. Sears of New York was married to Commander Fernando P. Gilmore of the United States Navy, at the cottage of the bride, in Jamestown, the Rev. F.F. Emerson of Providence officiating. The ceremony was witnessed by relatives and a few immediate friends.
The bride was given away by her son, Bertram Sears of New York, and Commander L.C. Logan, United States Navy, of the War College, acted as best man. Following the wedding, a breakfast was served, and later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore started on their wedding trip.
