Marguerite Elizabeth Mulhair was born the third of six children to Rose Wickham and Bradner B. Mulhair on September 25, 1907 in Goshen, Orange, New York.

Her siblings were Willard, Charles Arthur, Mary, John B., and Ada Rosamond "Rose" Mulhair. Marguerite had a half-sister, Evelyn Mulhair, from her father's second marriage to Elizabeth Madden. Marguerite also had a stepsister, Elizabeth's daughter, Alice Ruth Wilkie.

Marguerite married Elijah Joseph Conklin on February 4, 1929. Together the couple had nine children who survived into adulthood; Harriet Alice, Robert Elijah, Marguerite Elizabeth, Rosemarie "Rosie", Charles Philip, Ann E. "Annie", Bernice A., Eugene Francis, and William Joseph Conklin. They had another son, also named William Joseph Conklin, who was born and passed sometime before 1946.

Marguerite passed away July 26, 1989 in New York. She was buried beside her husband Elijah in Airmont Lutheran Cemetery in Suffern, Rockland, New York.
