Funeral Rites Arranged for George Adams
Monmouth – Funeral services for George Adams, 97, who had been a resident of Warren county at 75 years, will be at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in Lugg memorial chapel, Dr. James H. Grier, president of Monmouth's college, officiating. Burial will be in Monmouth cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
Mr. Adams, a farmer in his active years, died at 3:45 o'clock Saturday afternoon in Monmouth hospital where he had been receiving treatment two weeks. He was born Sept. 1, 1849, in Over, England, and came to this country at the age of 20. He came to Chicago from New York by train and then traveled by covered wagon from Chicago to the Cameron vicinity. For at least 61 years he resided on a farm north of Monmouth near Gerlaw.
On Feb. 16, 1875, he married Miss Temple L. Hively and she preceded him in death Oct. 12, 1890. On April 24, 1895, he married Miss Lillie Elizabeth Kinkaid and she preceded him in death July 10, 1905.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters by his first marriage, Harvey W., Omaha, Neb.; James C., Monmouth, and Arthur, New Windsor, and Mrs. Jane Adams, Omaha, and Mrs. Grace Upton, Fort Madison, Iowa; three sons and a daughter by his second marriage, John P., Salem, Ore., Henry and Frank, both of Monmouth, and Mrs. Dorothy Kersey, Monmouth; a brother, James D. Adams, Marion, Kan.; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Three daughters by his first marriage preceded him in death.
