James Dawson 'Doss' Gilpatrick was born August 2, 1867, in Kentucky, the son of James Logan Gilpatrick and Rebecca Jen Bilyeau. James married Betty Elizabeth 'Betsy' Warren on November 11, 1888 in Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee.
It's believed that Doss, his parents, and his brother-in-law Louis K. Warren left Tennessee about the same time and migrated to Texas. They settled in Wilbarger County: Doss and Betsy in Lockett, where their two children were born: James Preston and Mamie Belle.
In 1902, they moved northward into Oklahoma Territory where Doss received a land patent for 160 acres issued in 1909. The land was just outside the town of Davidson, and this where they lived out their lives.
