TWO KILLED, ONE INJURED IN GAS EXPLOSION MONDAY IN POTTER COUNTY FIELD.
Lewis Torrey, Thirty, of Millport, PA., and Louis F. Schlosser of Shinglehouse, PA., are victims.
Coudersport, Feb. 19. -- Two men were killed and one man injured when a natural gas control station in the Potter County gas field at Andrews Settlement exploded Monday afternoon at three o'clock.
The dead:
Lewis Torrey, thirty, Millport, instantly killed.
Lewis Schlosser, fifty-five, Shinglehouse, Pa., who died this morning at the Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville.
Ernest Carpenter, forty-five, Roulette, is a patient in the Port Allegany Hospital.
The explosion occurred as the men were throwing out a drip. There were no witnesses to the accident.
Carpenter, a truck driver for the Potter Development company was delivering wood alcohol to the scene when the explosion happened. It is believed Carpenter was struck by pipe and earth.
No fire followed the explosion in view of the fact that the gates were closed while the men were working on the drip.
James Isherwood of Port Allegany, official of the Allegany Gas and North Penn company, describes the accident as a "blowing up" of pressure rather than an explosion.
Mr. Schlosser passed away this morning at two-thirty o'clock at the Jones Memorial Hospital at Wellsville. Surviving are one son, L. F. Schlosser, Buffalo; one sister, Mrs. John Vossler, South Eleventh Street, Olean, N.Y.; one brother, A. J. Schlosser, Tulsa, Okla. The body was removed to Curry's Funeral Parlors, Olean, N.Y. Funeral arrangements are not complete.
