He was raised in Ardmore,Okla and graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in speech and English from Oklahoma City University in1951. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946, then served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Reserve.
He served as general manager of KTVC-TV from 1970-1990. He most recently worked as a realtor for Century 21 of Dodge City,KS.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dodge City where he was an elder. He was also a member of the VP Dodge City Real Estate Board, Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Oklahoma City University and the Dodge City Rotary Club, where he was a past president. He was a Dodge city Commissioner from 1992 to 1994, and a past director of the Dodge City Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors are one son, Brian Nelson Bailey of Dodge City,KS;daughter, Janet Roupas and husband, James of Albuquerque,N.Mex.; sister, Beatty Mae Johnson of Tulsa,Okla and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a son,William James Bailey on Dec. 20,1982.
Services were held at First Presbyterian Church by Rev. David S. Clipson presiding.
