Stephen Golden, attorney-at-law, Barboursville, KY, was born in Knox County, April 11, 1835. His parents, James and Elizabeth (Cummins) Golden, had fourteen children, of whom our subject was the third child.
He was reared on the farm, receiving such an education as could be obtained in the common schools of his neighborhood. In 1864 he entered the Federal army as Captain of Company A. Forty-ninth Kentucky Infantry, and served until December, 1864. He was subsequently employed in the Internal Revenue Department until 1876, when he was elected county judge of Knox County, being re-elected in 1880.
About 1870 he began studying law, and was admitted to the Barboursville bar in 1876. February 17, 1853, he married Miss Hiley Goin, a daughter of William and Elizabeth (Dyche) Goin, of Knox County. They are the parents of twelve children, six sons and six daughters, viz: Mary J., Percy R., Eleanor, Elizabeth, Levi, Edward, John E., Isaac H., Benjamin B., Martha A., Fleming W. and Rosa B. Politically Mr. Golden is a Republican; he is a member of the F.&A. M., and affiliates with the Baptist Church.
