Obituary of Jacquelyn "Jackie" Nickels

Gulfport, MS ~ Jacquelyn "Jackie" Nickels, age 77 and a resident of Gulfport, died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Gulfport.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Gene Edward Nickels; her parents, John W. Bell and Sarah Hendrix; her stepfather, Ted Hendrix and her grandson, Derek Ray Johnson.

Jackie is survived by her brother, David (Clarissa) Hendrix, Jr. of Newberry, SC, her sisters, Dorothy Jean (Jerry) Davis of Belmont, SC and Linda (Bill) Lominack of Prosperity, SC; her five children, Jimmy (Diane) Johnson of Long Beach, Donnie Johnson, Brenda (Peter) Blake, Gene "Ed" (Raquel) Nickels, and Robert "Bert" Nickels all of Gulfport; her four stepchildren, Joan (Wayne) Morris and Jean Currie of Columbia, TN, Michael "Mickey" Nickels of Gulfport, and David Nickels of Berlin, Germany.

Jackie's lifelong dedication was to her family and upholstery business which she operated under the name of J&G Upholstery.

Jackie touched the lives of family and friends through her 50 years in business not only did Jackie help the family and friends along the coast, but also helped other coast businesses. Each of them have a piece of her work displayed somewhere in their home or business.

In her younger days, Jackie enjoyed spending time at the Indian Reservation in Cherokee, NC, the Smoky Mountains, and fishing.

Jackie will be sadly missed by her children; 22 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; her loyal customers and her dear friend, Myrtis Franke.

The family extends sincerest appreciation to the nurses and doctors at Memorial Hospital, ICU 5th floor, and to Odyssey Hospice.

A time of gathering for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013, from 6pm-8pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport.

A graveside service for the family will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 10am at Long Beach City Cemetery.
