At age 19 enlisted on August 15, 1862, as a private in Battery E, 1st Ohio Light Artillery; promoted to corporal on September 1, 1864; mustered out on July 10, 1865, at Camp Dennison, Ohio.He was a physician, a farmer, a veteran of the Civil War and a member of George Martin Post 227, GAR. He married Maria Jackson and they raised one son, Edcel Vernon Chamberlin. He died of stomach cancer.
