Joan was born August 22, 1929 in Blackfoot, Idaho to James Godfrey Ropp and Laura Ellen Dockery. She lived her lifetime in the Blackfoot area. She attended grade school in Pingree and graduated from Thomas High School.
On April 1, 1948, Joan married DeLyle Dance in Rockford, Idaho. Together they raised three children, Rick, Tamara and Clinton.
Joan was a devoted wife and mother. She would work in the potato harvest with her family. She dedicated her life to serving others and volunteered many hours doing hair at the extended care facility. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, fall canning, tending her large garden, crocheting afghans and doilies. She loved family gatherings and camping in the mountains with her family.
Joan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her husband, DeLyle of Riverside, Idaho; children, Rick (Barbara) Dance of Port Ludlow, Washington, Tamara (Todd) Wood of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Clinton (Lisa) Dance of Middleton, Idaho; sister-in-law, Juanita Ropp of Fruitland, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Shanna Ellen Dance; brother, Garold Ropp; and sister, Barbara (Bill) Gay.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2013 and for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
