BAPTIST EVANGELIST REV. A TORRIE DIES
Funeral services are being held today for Rev. Alexander Torrie, 72. Baptist evangelist who campaigned for all denominational churches and missions across Canada. He died suddenly Saturday at his Raglan Ave home.
Born in Owen Sound district, son of the late Mr and Mrs Archie Torrie, and graduated from McMaster University in arts and theology, he was ordained a minister in the Baptist church in 1903. He held pastorates in Chatham, Midland and Westbounre Baptist church, Calgary. He entered his evangelical work in 1913 and was active in inter-denominational campaigns until his retirement in 1935. Since then however, his keen interest in church and evangelical work continued. He was a member of Walmer Road Baptist church, where the service is being held, with internment in Park Lawn cemetery.
He is survived by his widow; two brothers, Arthur Torrie, Chatsworth and Dunean Torrie, Markdale, and two sisters, Mrs William Howie and Mrs Mary Mustard, both of Toronto.
