... It was just that desire to avoid the pomp and ceremony of a conventional wedding, coupled with the desire to be married at once, that impelled Mr. Richard L. Jenks, of 428 South Fortieth street, and Miss Meta Cotton Fell, his third cousin, who has been living for some time with her uncle, William T. Jenks, at the same address, to step on a trolley car and bowl away to Chester and there be wedded by Justice of the Peace, Thomas L. Garvine, who reigns over a little tobacco shop when he is not dispensing justice and putting his seal on marriage certificates. ... The bride is the granddaughter of the late George M. Troutman, and her father, who died last February, was from Faulkland, Delaware. She has a country seat close by the place of the Duponts. Mr. Jenks is a civil engineer, a son of William J. Jenks, the well-known chemist. His grandfather was Judge Jenks."

"Commodore Richard L. Jenks, of the Cape May Yacht Club, gave a dinner to the members of the club on Friday evening. Commodore Jenks has made wonderful improvements to the clubhouse during the past winter. He appointed the Regatta Committee for the season and tentative plans are being arranged, Particular attention will be paid to the holding of the final racemeet of the South Jersey Association, over the club's course on Saturday, September 2. The races will be for championship honors and invitations will be sent out to all the yacht owners in this section of the country."

Philadelphia Yachtsman Succumbs to Heart Attack at Cape May
Cape May, NJ, Aug. 19 - Richard L. Jenks, 50 years old, of 430 South Fortieth street, Philadelphia, who has been commodore of the Cape May Yacht Club for two years, died shortly after noon today.
This morning Mr. Jenks spent several hours at the yacht club. When he was about to return to his cottage on Hughes street he fell to the floor with a heart attack. He was restored by friends and taken home and a physician summoned, but before he arrived Mr. Jenks died.
In his earlier years Mr. Jenks had served in a government capacity in Washington, later operatng several drug stores in Philadelphia. He was very active in yachting circles here, owning a large cruiser, the Edithe, which he turned over to the government for use as a submarine chaser.
He is survived by a wife and five children. The body will be taken to Philadelphia tomorrow."
