Born on July 17, 1921 in Somerville, MA the only child of Clarence Elphinstone Anthony and Ruth Northrop (Barnes) Anthony. On October 4, 1952, he married Nancy Lyle (Rogers)Anthony (d. 2012). Father of James M. "Jay" Anthony, Jr., Paul Lyle Anthony, RN, BSN (d. 11/25/2012) and Marilyn Jane Anthony, RN,, BSN. Grandfather of Maj. Michaela Anthony, U.S. Army, Margaret Rose Anthony, Cailin Corbett Lafontaine and Kathryn M. Anthony, RN, BSN.
He grew up in Barrington RI. He was a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and was a veteran of World War II, serving as a pilot in the U.S. Navy and flew Hellcats. Mr. Anthony relocated to South Bend, IN in the 1940's when he began his 34 year employment with Uniroyal in Mishawaka working in the footwear style and design department. He became manager of that department during the 1960's. In 1969, Uniroyal moved the Footwear Division to Naugatuck, Connecticut transferring Mr. Anthony and his family.
Following the sale of the Footwear Division to Stride Rite in the 1980's, Mr. Anthony retired and ventured for a brief time into real estate sales and had also worked with Meyers Supply. He had enjoyed bowling, golf, crosswords, the Red Sox and his family. (Sadly, he missed seeing his beloved Red Sox win the World Series the next month). To him, a blissfull evening began at 5:00 p.m. with two gin martini's before dinner, followed by 3 oatmeal/raisin cookies broken in half and eaten over the course of two hours wth his coffee.
