Otto Kohl formerly of Dixon was instantly killed Sunday near Kirkwood, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis, according to word received here by relatives late yesterday afternoon. Mr. Kohl was a member of a weekend picnic party at a swimming beach at Kirkwood, where he met his untimely death. He dove from a spring board and is believed to have struck a submerged object, probably a rock in the stream, and died almost instantly. Members of the party who were with him assisted with removing the body from the water immediately following the accident, but life was extinct. An inquest is being conducted today.
Mr. Kohl was born and raised in Franklin Grove and resided in Dixon for several years. He was formerly employed at the Borden Condensory and also at the Grand Detour Plow Company's factory. He left Dixon about six years ago, going to St. Louis where of late years he had been a painting contractor. He leaves two sisters residing in this city, Mrs. Andrew Myers and Mrs. Andrew Nelson, and a brother Carl of Sterling. The remains will be brought to Dixon for burial.
