WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — L. Frances "Fran" Markel, 84, passed away at Fayette County Memorial Hospital, Washington Court House, on Monday, March 11, 2013.

She was born Nov. 15, 1928, to the late M.H. and Verna May Gay Meredith in Fredericktown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A Markel II.

Mrs. Markel was a graduate of Fredericktown High School and a graduate of the Wooster Business School. She retired from Mac Tools of Washington Court House, had been a volunteer at Fayette County Memorial Hospital, was a current member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a member of the Rebekah Circle of Grace United Methodist Women.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bernadine Orcutt.

Fran is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Mike) Devine of Phoenix, Ariz.; a nephew, Rick Orcutt of Norfolk, Va.; cousins, Carolyn Wheeler of California and Marilyn Lowe of Washington; special friends, Midge McKinley of Columbus, Sheri Siniff of Washington Court House; a host of Grace Church friends; and the loving and caring staff of Court House Manor.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown, with Grace United Methodist Church Visitation Director Mell Wickensimer officiating.
