LAKE ANDES -- Lydia Schrank, 92, of Lake Andes, South Dakota, died Tuesday July 13, 2004, at Lake Andes Health Care Center in Lake Andes, S.D.

Funeral service will be Thursday, July 15, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Lake Andes, South Dakota with burial following in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lake Andes, South Dakota. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 14, 2004, from 5-8 p.m. at the Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Lake Andes, SD. Prayer service is 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at the Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Lake Andes, SD.

Lydia Schrank was born to Jacob and Elizabeth (Suess) Fischer on May 30, 1912, at Delmont, SD.

She grew to adulthood in Tripp, SD.

On July 1, 1930, Lydia and Leonard E. Schrank were united in marriage at Blooming Valley Church, Corsica, SD, where they spent their early married life -- later moving to the Delmont homestead where their two children, Delmar and Darlene, were born.

They were engaged in farming and ranching from 1930-1948 in the Corsica, Delmont and Highmore areas. Lydia worked in the field alongside her husband until encountering a tractor mishap, which resulted in their move to Parkston, SD, in 1948 for medical purposes. Employment took them to Lake Andes, SD, in 1951. Lydia was employed at Andes Lanes for many years. Lydia was very active in the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Lutheran Ladies Aide, Royal Neighbors, Sunshine Extension Club, Rebecca Lodge and Senior Citizens, serving in various capacities. Lydia enjoyed people and was most happy when assisting others with projects. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, card playing, and attending the grandchildren's school and athletic activities. She died at the age of 92.

She is survived by a son, Delmar Schrank and wife, Irene, San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Darlene Martinec and companion, Asa Campbell, Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren: Kenneth Martinec and wife, Kathy, and great-grandson, Anthony Joseph, Sioux Falls, SD; Debra (Martinec) Bollinger and her husband, Scott and great-grandsons, Jerry, Stephen, Adam and Patrick, Pierre, SD; Patricia (Schrank) Armstrong and husband, Mark, Plano, TX; and Pamela Schrank, St. Louis, MO; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 52 years, Leonard; sons-in-law, Don Martinec and Allen Duxbury; three sisters: Emma Fischer, Barbara Tislau and Helena Clark; five brothers: Jacob, Henry, Adolph, John and Christopher Fischer; four nephews and many other relatives and friends.
