Extracted from Evelyn's obituary, "Evelyn attended Mathews Elementary School...She graduated from Austin High School, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1948. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Women's Fraternity. After college Evelyn worked at the Texas Education Agency. Evelyn married John Frank Byrom, formerly of Gatesville, Texas, in 1952. They worshipped at the University Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Evelyn and "Johnny" raised two sons, Bill and Bob, while operating an onion farming business in Del Valle near the Austin Bergstrom Airport. Evelyn worked about 20 years as bookeeper for the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She lovingly cared for her husband John at home as he weakened from ALS, until he passed away in 2003. She had many friends in Austin who admired her loving and kind character, full of compassion for others. A ready smile and encouragement met old friends and new acquaintances. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, needlework, and family and church activities. She loved music and enjoyed playing both piano and organ. She was a charter member of the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin." Memorial services were held at University Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. Contributions were requested to: University Presbyterian Church, Heifer International, Doctors Without Borders, Grameen Foundation.
