Camilla Mason Sugg Newman was the daughter of Joseph Allen Mason and Elizabeth Mason. She was first married to Joel J. Sugg and, following his death, she married Charles Jones Newman. Camilla and Mr. Newman helped raise the children of her brother, Aaron Waller Mason and Lucy Allen Chapman. Mrs. Mason (Lucy) died in 1893 and her husband (Aaron Waller) died in 1906. The Newmans lived with Mr. Mason, following Lucy's death, in the stately Mason home on Main Street. As the children grew, they moved next door to their own rambling house. Aaron Waller Mason's children, Chapman, A.G, Little Lide and Lucian were lovingly nurtured by their "Aunt Camilla" and "Uncle Charles". Their father, Aaron Waller Mason's wish for the Newmans to care for his children is well documented in a letter written just prior to his death. Brenda Jerome wrote a fascinating blog about this letter left by Mr. Mason for his children.
