Obituary
Lon-el Greene was born on July 13, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri to Rufus and Katherine Greene. He attended and graduated from Sumner High school in St. Louis in 1969 where he played saxophone in the school band. After high school, Lon-el continued to develop his passion and skill for music as he attended the Dick Grove School of Music.
Lon-el's professional music career started in high school and remained his main passion throughout his life. Along with being a full time professional musician, he also worked as a bus driver, taxi driver and private music instructor.
He loved hiking and playing his saxophone in peaceful places. One of his favorite hiking trails was Easton Canyon in Pasadena, CA where he found peace in his surroundings and inspiration for his music. Lon-el's music was inspired by everything he did; even his drive to church on Sundays was responsible for the song entitled, "Camarillo".
Lon-el was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Katherine Green and his brother Frank.
Those left to cherish Lon-el's memory are: his daughter Nikki Greene-Lee and her husband Jameil; Granddaughter Ayana Greene; Grandsons: John Conner II and Jayden Lee; Siblings: Randolph Green, Larry Jones, Shirley Green and Diane Smith; Cousins: Kenny, Michael and Annette. Carolyn Williams, the love of his life and caretaker, along with a host of family and friends.
Lon-el dedicated his life to creating music and making the people who listened to it feel a little better.
Lon-el was a long time member of Faith Tabernacle of Peace church in Camarillo where he worshiped with his saxophone and went out of his way to play for those who needed encouragement and uplifting.
A service will be held on Saturday March 9, 2013 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church located at 380 Arneil Road in Camarillo. A viewing will take place from 10:00am – 11:15am and the service will begin at 11:30 am. Burial will take place at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo immediately following the service. Repast will be back at the church until 3pm.
