Death of J. D. Armstrong

The following concerning the death and funeral of J. D. Armstrong is taken from The Champaign News, Champaign, Ill.:

Bondville, Oct 4—The funeral of J. D. Armstrong took place this morning at 10 o'clock at Bondville, Rev. M. McIntosh of Bowen, a former pastor, conducted the services assisted by Rev. Mr. Stevenson.

Mr. Armstrong was born in West Virginia, April 15, 1846, and died Oct. 1, 1912, aged sixty-six years, five months and sixteen days. At the age of nine he moved with his parents to Monica. In 1871 he was married to Catherine Parnell, to whom were born ten children: Mrs. Nora Buck of Mahomet, James E of Claremont, Bertha, Eldon, Ester, Orpha, Arthur, Clara, George and Charles all of whom are living except Bertha who died at the age of four.

In 1872 he united with the Whites Grove church of Peoria county and became a faithful and devoted worker. In 1891 he moved his family to a farm near Bondville where he remained until last fall and retired then because of failing health. Three years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never fully recovered. Another stroke a few days ago was the immediate cause of death.

Mr. Armstrong was one of the best known and most successful farmers in this vicinity. He was very much interested in scientific agriculture and devoted much of his time in studying up-to-date methods and putting them into practice.

The excellent crops that he raised was the result of good judgment and foresight. He was a lover of fine stock and took great pride in the draft horses, dairy cows and hogs and the increasing productiveness of his farms was result of marketing his crops through his live stock.

Besides his wife and children he leaves five sisters, Mrs. Ellen Leaverton and Mrs. Martha Squires of Monica; Mrs. Lucrettia Parrish and Miss Rose Armstrong, Shenandoah, Ia. And Mrs. Jennie Blank of Coin, Ia., all of whom were present at the funeral except Mrs. Parrish.

A host of friends attended the service as a mark of respect for one who has always stood for high moral, business honor and Christian benevolence.
