Reverend James K. Kear passed from this life on March 22, 2002, at his home in Enid, Oklahoma, after bravely battling cancer. He was 63. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, at World Harvest Church, 210 East Maple, Enid, Oklahoma, with Reverend Brad Mendenhall and Reverend Dr. Michael Kear, officiating. Visitations for friends and family were at Trout Funeral Home, 505 West Grand, Ponca City, Oklahoma. The casket remained open untll 12:15 p.m. at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mano, under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.

Jim was born July 6, 1938, on the family farm near Pennington, New Mexico, the youngest child of James Clifford and Lillie Mae (Ogle) Kear. He attended school at Clayton, New Mexico, graduating with the class of 1957. On May 31, 1959, he married Patty Kay LeCrone at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Clayton. They shared nearly 43 happy years together. Mr. Kear proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the New Mexico National Guard from 1955 to 1960.
Jim spent many years in the electronic field, working for Vance AFB in Enid, DCLA Schools in Lamont, Huguley Memorial Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, and St.Joseph Regional Medical Center in Ponca City. He also owned Medical Instrumentation Service in Ponca City.
Reverend Kear devoted his life to church work. He was an elder and a teacher endearing himself to several congregations over the years. In 1989, Jim was ordained as a Baptist minister. He served as the pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Ponca City, and later as a missionary to Mexico. He was Co-Director of Missions at World Harvest Church in Enid, from 1998 until his death. Jim studied religion at Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia, and CBN University, Virginia Beach, Virginia, graduating from both with honors. Jim loved to preach the Gospel, continuing to do so even after he became bedfast. He enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, traveling, collecting books and Bibles, listening to short wave radio and playing with his dogs. Jim was a gentle and compassionate man who never failed to express his love to his church congregation, his friends and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Patty, of the home; two sons, Dr. Michael Kear and wife T.J., and David Kear and wife, Tina, all of Ponca City; one daughter, Cindy Kingore and husband Karold of Meno, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Michael Kear II, and wife Jenean of Jay, Oklahoma, Miles Kear of Ponca City, Matthew Chapmond and Lisa Chapmond of Meno, Oklahoma; one great-grandson, Ashton Kear, of Jay, Oklahoma; three brothers, Fred, Dave and Donnie all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchilden.
Casket bearers were Karold Kingore, Michael Kear II, Miles Kear, Matthew Chapmond, Chad Wiggins and Aaron Wiggins. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Circle of Love, 529 North Grand, Enid, Oklahoma 737O1.
