Reading Eagle, Monday March 27, 1893 edition, front page headline: "Boy Killed on the Railroad". While Irwin, 11 year old son of Wellington Freeman, was jumping on to a moving coal train, opposite the cinder crusher, above Leesport Station, on Sunday, he slipped & fell and had one of his legs cut off, besides receiving other serious cuts and bruises. The boy was found by Mr. Beck and removed to his home in East Leesport, and Dr. Brobst dressed his injuries. Later, he was taken to the Reading Hospital in a team, where his injured limb was amputated, but, owing to the loss of blood he failed to rallie and expired. Several other boys were with young Freeman at the time of the accident. Wellington Freeman, father of the dead boy, is an employee of the Penn'a railroad company. P. & R Officer Kaucher investigated the accident.
