Nancy Kay Cook, 72, of Martinsville, passed from this life at 4:08 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at The Waters of Martinsville.

She was born April 10, 1940, in Marion County to the late Donald and Lenora Ruth (Fendley) Brown.

On Aug. 8, 1958, she married Paul Junior Cook in Johnson County. They lived in Johnson County for a couple of years before moving to Martinsville in 1960, making that their home.

Nancy was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who was passionate about her family, her church and Christmas.

During the late 1960s, she worked at Morgan County Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. She also was actively involved for many years with the Red Barn in Martinsville and the Pleasant Grove Ladies Aid.

She loved to bowl and was a member of the Sunday Night Co-ed and Tuesday Morning Ladies leagues for several years. She also took pleasure in playing card games, crocheting, crafts, collecting bells of all kinds, and her rose gardens.

Over the past few years she had been president of the residents committee at The Waters of Martinsville and was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Martinsville.

She will be missed by many, including her son, Michael (Gayle) Cook of Morgantown; her daughter, Paula (Jeffrey) Woodruff of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth (James) Engelking, Melissa Sue (Brock) Milligan and Michelle Gayle Cook; three great-grandchildren, Lilli An Milligan, Eli Engelking and Kelly Muston; a brother, Robert Donald (Margie) Brown of Franklin; and a sister, Norma Jean (Bill) Mayfield of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Paul, on April 5, 2010; three sisters, Nyla Jo Roeder, Wanda "Susie" Stout and Ruth Marie Brown; and a brother, Jimmy Brown.

Pastor David Vaughn will conduct a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Friday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center, 110 E. Poston Road, Martinsville. Family and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
