MRS. ETHEL MINNIE SPENCER BESTOR, 85, formerly of Blue Hills Avenue, Bloomfiled, a past officer of several Hartford community organizations, died Sunday at a local convalescent home. She was the widow of George R. Bestor. Born in Bloomfield, she lived in the Hartford area most of her life. She attended Blue Hills Baptist Church and was organist there many years. She was a former assistant organist at the Church of the Redeemer. The former private secretary to late corporation lawyer, Warren D. Chase, Mrs. Bestor was a former secretary of the American Red Cross in Hartford, assistant secretary of the Hartford Community Chest 25 years, and was a former member of the board of directors and treasurer of the Hartford YMCA. She was a member of the Organists Guild and the Professional Womens' Club.
She leaves a brother, the Rev. Earl Spencer of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Goerring of Hartford and Mrs. Evelyn Carlson of West Hartford. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the First Church of Christ Congregational, in West Hartford.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Ethel S. Bestor Fund of the Blue Hills Baptist Church, 690 Blue Hills Ave. The Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 776 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, has charge of arrangements.
