She was born in New Jersey, August 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Robert A. and Olga Neilsen Vadersen.
She was a member of Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren, in Waynesboro, as well as Fuquay-Varina 1st United Methodist Church, Fuquay, North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Elkins; two brothers, Robert and Ernest Vadersen; and a sister, Paula Anne Elkins.
Survivors include her children, Jeff Elkins and his wife, Joan, of Waynesboro, Bobby Elkins and his wife, Judy, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carollina, Richard Elkins and his wife, Terri, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and Claudia Elkins Carroll and her husband, Russell, of Willow Spring, North Carolina; grandchildren, Tammy and Phil Tackett, Cindy and Frankie Coish, Jimmy and Shelley Elkins, and Stephanie Carroll Murzyn and her husband, Randy; great-grandchildren, Sessilie, Koty, Laurel, Perry, Kelley, and Megan.
A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren, with the Reverend Larry Black.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 West Main Street, Waynesboro, Virginia.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the 1st United Methodist Church of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.
The family will receive relatives and friends, from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.
Burial will follow at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens, Fuquay, North Carolina.
