His nephew, John Leathers Marshall (son of Henry's brother William Kelker Marshall) wrote this brief recollection in the 1920s: "On a sadder note, my father's younger brother [Henry Marks Marshall, 1840-1864] served in the war, was captured and died of starvation in Andersonville prison. His family and friends sent him boxes of food and clothing which he never received. One of his comrades who saw him the day before he died went back the next day only to find that he had been carried out by the rebels to his last resting place which was no grave but only a few leaves and brush to cover his remains."

In them, the name Samuel Marquis appears, married to a Mar. Kelker (born 1805; was she Maria? Margaret? Martha?) This couple had children, among whom were Henry Kelker Marquis, Charlotte Marquis, and Rebecca Marquis. (Rebecca Thome Kelker was Charlotte Kelker Marshall's mother.) The names suggest a close relationship to Charlotte Kelker Marshal (born 1800)--Henry's mother. If Charlotte's sister married Samuel Marquis, then their son Henry Marquis Kelker could have been the full cousin of Henry Marquis Marshall.
So, the name may have been Henry Marquis Marshall rather than Henry Marks Marshall. Charlotte Dean's memory may have been aural--she heard "Marks" when the name actually was "Marquis."
