Sometime in 1938, during warm weather, the Turners and Martins had a family reunion at Great-Granddaddy John Lee Martin's house in Axton VA. This was an annual affair. While there, John Lee asked his grandson Oscar Turner, "to say a few words" so Oscar who was also a Baptist preacher gave an inspiring talk to the family. At the conclusion of the message, Oscar asked if anyone listening would like to accept Jesus as his Savior.
Johnny, Oscar's father, responded to this invitation and asked Jesus into his heart. Oscar prayed with him and this conversion must have been one of the highlights of Oscar's life.
