SUNSET � Eldred England Smith, 88, passed away Friday, September 7, 2001 peacefully at his home.

He was born January 29, 1913 in Logan, Utah, the son of James McNeil and Lydia Emma England Smith.

Eldred married Mary LaFaye Hansen on May 1, 1938. They later divorced. He married Melba Louisa Ballingham on August 1, 1959 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Eldred was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Sunset 1st Ward, where he served as High Priest, Ward Finance Clerk for 28 years and Ward organist for 33 years.

He retired from Hill Air Force Base where he worked as an accountant. He had been a Boy Scout and attended Utah State University.

He is survived by his wife Melba, Sunset; daughter, Sonnia Mary Bahrs, Los Altos, CA; daughter-in-law, Shirley Charlesworth, Richfield, UT; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Merlin William (Eda) Smith, Provo, UT.

His son, James Dennis, two brothers: Byron James and Lyman England, one sister: Norma Eliza Smith Hammond preceded him in death.
