George Schulmeister, 78 of Oelwein, Iowa died on Thursday morning, February 21, 2013 at Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein.

Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Military Memorial Service: 6:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home by Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 Honor Guard of Oelwein. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be given in George's name to the Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 of Oelwein, 108 1st Street SW Oelwein, Iowa 50662, an organization he supported.

George, the son of Jacob and Anna Schulmeister, was born March 6, 1934. He was a lifetime resident of Oelwein and attended school at Sacred Heart. He served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956. On December 21, 1957, he married Jeanne Audrey Guritz, his wife of 53 years, who preceded him in death. George worked for the Chicago Greatwestern/Northwestern Railroad. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends; fishing and camping with Jeanne was one of his greatest joys.

George is survived by two sons and one daughter, Mike (wife Sandy) Schulmeister of Oelwein; Chris (wife Jeanie) Schulmeister of Allen, Texas; and Georjean (husband Joe) Montgomery of Allen, Texas; five grandchildren, Shawn Schulmeister, John Schulmeister, Matthew Montgomery, Samantha Schulmeister, Emma Schulmeister; and one great grandson, Shayne Schulmeister. He is also survived by his two sisters, Marge Inman and Julie Koch.

George is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanne on January 8, 2010; his grandson, Bryan Schulmeister on May 14, 2011; five brothers, Pete, Joe, Jake, Sonny, and John; and five sisters, Christina , Helen, Annie, Barb and Mary.
