Homer –C- Mode B. Allen, 89, well-known retired farmer of the Homer area, died Nov. 13 at his home southeast of Homer. He had been ill just a few days. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 16 at Fairmount, with Allan McMillan officiating. Burial was in the GAR Cemetery. Allen had spent all his life in the Homer-Fairmount area, and had served as a commissioner of a drainage district in Vance and Sidell Townships, Vermilion County, for many years.
He was born July 30, 1876, at Chent, Ky., to Moses and Liza Oakley Allen. He was married to Inez Zimmerman Oct. 18, 1908, at Homer. His wife preceded him in death in 1935. He was also preceded by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Surviving him are 3 sons, Frank and Robert of Homer and Kenneth of Bloomington, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Homer.
