A J Meeks of Eddy, who passed away Saturday afternoon at the home of a son in Vinita whom he was visiting, was grandfather of Mrs Emmett Bailey of Fountain. And to many in Alcorn he was Grandfather Meeks of the Pear farm where he was ready to exclaim "come on boys we can soon pick 'em" Even though the boys were like he, in their eighties.

Abraham J Meeks was born at Elmer, Mo., 14 Jan 1860, and departed this life at Vinita, Ok., 11 Jan 1947, lacking just three days of being 87 years of age.
3 August 1880, he was united in marriage to Miss Binda Bunch, who preceded him in death on 6 May 1946. At the time of her death they lacked from May 6 to Aug 3, of having been married 66 years, To this union ten children were born , eight of whom survive, two having died in infancy. The following children survive, Mrs Emma Miller, Ernest Meeks, and Claude Meeks, of Eddy, Ok., Arla Meeks of Vinita, Alva of Arnett, Grace Farris, of Arnett, Mrs Mamie Cope, of Texhoma, and Bernice Conner of San Bernardino, Ca., Other near relatives who survive include a brother, Jim Meeks of Elmer, Mo and a sister Mrs H M Miller of Tulsa, 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Since his wife death Mr Meeks has lived with his children, and at the time of his death was at the home of his son Orla, in Vinita.
