Wendell Murray Hunt, known to his friends as "Duke", passed away peacefully at his home on February 21, 2013 from causes incident to age. He was 82.

Wendell was born on April 9, 1930, in Enterprise, Utah to Amos Hunt and Naomi Barnum Hunt, the fifth of seven children, and lived most of his life in Enterprise.

He married his sweetheart Joe Ann Judd, on June 9, 1950, in Pioche, Nevada, in a double ceremony with their good friends, Harry and Dema Randall. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple. They have been married over 62 years.

He was a true cowboy, spending time on the family ranch with his brothers and his father, Amos. He was a horseman all his life, training and shoeing horses for others.

He was involved in the Pony Express race, an annual event held in conjunction with the Iron County Fair. He both trained and rode the horses for that event and usually came out on the wining team.

He loved horse racing and taught his granddaughter how to bet on the horses. But his favorite horse activity was the Horsemanship 4-H program, which he was involved in with his children and his grandchildren.

He was an avid deer hunter and took many big bucks during his life. Hunting was always a family activity for him, and he enjoyed being in the mountains with his wife, children, grandchildren, and his friends.

He was known for his participation in the "Burro Banditos", an escapade he was involved in with some of his "horse chasing" compadres.

In his later years he enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz and Professional Bull Riding. He especially loved when his great grandchildren came to visit. He loved sweets. A plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies was always appreciated and enjoyed.

He was a farm mechanic for most of his life, working the last nearly 30 years of his career at Crossroads Equipment in Beryl. His work was always first rate, and he was much appreciated by the farmers in the area.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with his favorite calling being in the leadership of the Elders quorum. He was a quiet giant, with never much to say. His actions spoke louder than his words.

He is survived by his wife Joe Ann, of Washington, Utah, children Wendell Ray Hunt (Danette) of Santa Clara, Becky Hunt Colf (Gary) of St. George, Jeffrey Judd Hunt (Sheila) of Enterprise and Natalie Hunt Fox (Doug) of Cedar City. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his sister, Karen Jolley, and his brother-in-law Leland Huntsman.

He was preceded in death by his son Steven L. Hunt, parents, Amos and Naomi Hunt, sister Wanda Huntsman, brothers Clawson, LeGrande, Leonard, and Larry, and grandson Jaymon Fox.
