Craig D. Batty, loving husband, father and grandpa, returned to his Heavenly Father too quickly on February 19, 2013.

Craig was born in Vernal, Utah on October 14, 1953 to Rex Harold Batty and Lilly Mae Murray.

He grew up on the Batty farm, part of which in now the Vernal Golf Course, working along side his dad, grandpa Dan Batty and siblings.

He inherited the Batty ethic of hard work.

He married his best friend and sweetheart on February 28, 1986 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 20, 1993.

After attending Elementary and Junior High School in Vernal and Granger High School in West Valley, Utah, Craig enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict; he served as Private 3rd class.

He was stationed out of Jacksonville, Florida and served as a cook on the Destroyer USS Stripling. He docked at many places around the world: Egypt, Pakistan, England, Africa, and the Caribbean Islands. He traveled through the Red Sea and different locations in the Middle East.

Craig crossed the equator at 000 Degree Longitude and 00 Degree Latitude, he received the honor of Golden Shellback, for this is tradition in the United States Navy.

He received an honorable discharge in May of 1975 and remained in the reserves until 1978.

He gained an undeniable love for his country and always loved to fly his American Flag. He was a member of the American Legion in Vernal.

Craig loved serving in numerous church callings. He was currently serving as High Councilman in the Vernal, Utah Uintah Stake, a calling that he loved and he was so happy doing. He had a strong testimony of his savior Jesus Christ.

He loved working with wood and was very talented at creating different pieces. You could tell him what you wanted and he would design and build it to perfection.

Craig loved being a grandpa. He had a special relationship with each of his grandchildren: Justin Westwood, Lexy Westwood, Brinli Burchinal, Sekada Burchinal and Hunter Burchinal. He loved them so much.

Craig was always a jokester and loved playing tricks on his wife and family. He loved a good time.

Craig was currently employed at Intermountain Concrete. He loved his job and his work family. He was always thinking of others and how he could serve them. He truly was a good example to those around him.

Craig will be missed by his family and friends until we see him again.

Craig is survived by his wife Rhonda, Children: Joey Batty, Kole (Keeley) Westwood, Kristie (Heath) Burchinal, Kasey (Walter) Ayson.; brothers: Alan (Connie) Batty and Gary (Miko) Batty; sisters: Linda Batty and Renee (Steve) Rhoades; stepmother Theda Batty; uncle Neil Batty; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved.

Craig is preceded in death by his father Rex Harold Batty, his mother Lilly Mae Murray and father-in-law Lynn A. Licht.

Funeral services will be held Friday February 22, 2013 at the Uintah Stake Center (4080 South 2500 East) at 11 AM.

A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6-8pm at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home (410 North 800 West) and Friday morning from 9:45~10:45 AM at the stake center.

Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park with Military honors provided by the American Legion and the Utah National Guard.
