George served in the Revolutionary War as a drummer boy. While he had lived and farmed in Madison co., IL, a land transfer record with William Bridges notes that George died in O'Fallon, where he and his wife Nancy had moved towards the end of his life. It is speculated that both he and Nancy are buried in this Bridges cemetery.

N.B. The Bridges cemetery is actually located in O'Fallon township on the West side of Hagemann Road; nevertheless, it has a PO mailing address of Lebanon, IL. As of 1997, the four extant stones in the cemetery had been broken by vandals and were subsequently moved a field line back from the road. The wooden sign denoting it as the "Historic Family Cemetary (sic) of William Bridges" is the only indication that this is a family cemetery. In 2018 and 2019, efforts are being made to repair the tombstones and to erect a cenotaph to George Bridges, Revolutionary War soldier. On Nov. 9, 2019 the SAR held a dedication ceremony of the cenotaph.
