Mr. Elias Coppock, age 71 years, 2 months, and 21 days, peacefully passed away last Saturday night at his home here on Main Street. The deceased had been in bad health for several months. His death ws due to valvular heart disease. He bore his sufferings well and never complained. He was a man of generous impulses and never forgot the hospitable way of a true Kentuckian, though he was a native of Ohio. He was born Aug. 15th, 1853 in Tippicanoe, Miami County, Ohio and came to Taylor County in 1888 and engaged in the farming business in the Hatcher neighborhood. Mr. Coppock continued farming until about 12 years ago, at which time he came to town and engaged in the timber business with Mr. B. G. Rakestraw. In the recent years Mr. Coppock was engaged in road work near town, also the street work in town. He built a number of concrete bridges both in the county and town. He was a devout and consecrated member of the Bethel church and lived up to its teachings. He believed in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. At all times, under all circumstances he walked in the well beaten path of righteousness. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Messers E. C. and W. T. Coppock of this city and Sam Coppock of this county, also one daughter, Mrs. Tollie Collins of this city, to all of whom the deepest sympathy of the community go out in their hour of sorrow. The funeral services were conducted at his late home, by his Pastor Rev. Rigler, where a multitude of friends had gathered to pay its last respects to an honored friend, neighbor and citizen. Interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery.
