According to Family Search and Wikitree, Winfield Scott Bangs was born on August 22, 1851 in DeKalb County, Indiana to Heman Bangs and Catherine Elmira (Chaffee) Bangs. He married Orelia McCague on January 3, 1877 in Montgomery, Hillsdale County, Michigan.

He died in Liberal, Kansas on May 29, 1927 Winfield Bangs is listed as a founding pioneer of Liberal, Kansas.
