Aaron "Poppa" Diggs, 88, of Alma expired Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Twin Oaks Convalescent Center in Alma with loved ones at his bed side.

He was born February 14, 1925 in Bacon County to the late Annie Burch Williams.

He attended elementary and high school in Bacon County. He then went off and served his country in the United States Army. Upon returning, he went to barber college in Atlanta. He later retired after working more than 50 years in the automobile industry.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Burch Williams; his wife, Mary Louvata Campbell Diggs; his son, Ronnie Diggs; his step-son, Willie James Ellis; a brother, Jimmie Wilcox; sisters, Lucille Jackson and Caroline Strozie; sister-in-law, Camilla Campbell Wilcox, and brothers-in-law, Ramon Jackson and Charles Strozier.

Survivors include his two sons, Donnie Ray Diggs (Patricia) and Allen Jones; three daughters, Ella Diggs Morgan, Betty Lawanna Diggs and Dawn Ellis Snell; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, from the First African Baptist Church, 708 E. 12th Street, Alma. The pastor, the Rev.James Stephen Deen, will bring words of comfort.

Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be the deacons of the church.

Rainge Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Blackshear is in charge of arrangements.
